Reading for study involves reading to gain information about your course topic in preparation for attending classes, for writing an assignment, and/or preparing for exams and tests.
Reading for learning, or critical reading, is about reading to get meaning at a deeper level than is needed when reading for fun. It is about gaining an understanding beyond just what the text says and developing an understanding at the level of the writer.
